Plant Safety Testing

The use of ELISA over methods of PCR and other traditional techniques is the ease of sample preparation and cost effectiveness of the test. Our laboratory is equipped to process various kind of samples including fruits, ornamental plants, crops etc. and can run tests for all types of plant pathogens.

Bacteria and Fungi

Pathogenic bacteria and fungi can easily and quickly spread amongst your plants and crops, causing widespread disease. Most commonly, bacterial infections can be spotted by leaf spots. However, a variety of other symptoms including spots on the rest of the plant, scabs, wilting, bacterial oozing, galls, and cankers can develop. Krishgen offers a range of bacterial and fungal tests for your plant diagnostics.

Viruses

Viruses cause a variety of symptoms in plants including curling, mosaic patterns, mottling, necrosis, puckering, ringspots, stunting, twisting, and wilting. Viruses are often named based on the host plant in which they were first identified and the symptoms they caused in that host. Krishgen offers a range of ELISA based tests for the detection of these pathogens.

GMO

Even today, GMO is a controversial topic in the food and agricultural space. Genetically modified organisms and plants are less accepted – therefore, claiming that your product is “GMO Free” instills confidence in the consumer when purchasing. Krishgen can test your seed samples both qualitatively and quantitatively for several parameters.

GUIDELINES FOR SAMPLE SUBMISSION: It is important that plant samples are properly submitted to the lab to ensure proper and timely identification.

  1. When collecting samples, ensure you get as many parts of the plant as possible. Many diseases are specific to the roots, leaves or stem. Ensuring multiple collections ensures you do not get a false negative result.
  2. Cover your samples properly in dry tissue and place them in a plastic bag before sending. Do not put them in wet tissues, as that could cause the plant to rot, making diagnosis difficult.
  3. Choose samples that display symptoms such as spots, mosaic or wilt.  If no symptoms are present, choose both young and old leaves.
  4. Each test may have specific requirements for sample collection. Speak to our team before collecting and shipping.

REPORTING FORMAT: A PDF of the results will be emailed upon completion, and a hard copy is available on request. The format of the report can be customized to your specific requirements.

TURN AROUND TIME: The results are reported 15 days from receipt of the samples, or as stipulated in the quote.
