Description
The KRIBIOLISA Carbamazepine (TEGRETOL) ELISA is used as an analytical tool for quantitative estimation of Carbamazepine in human serum and plasma. Carbamazepine, sold under the trade name Tegretol, is an anticonvulsant medication used primarily in the treatment of epilepsy and neuropathic pain. It is used as an adjunctive treatment in schizophrenia along with other medications and as a second-line agent in bipolar disorder. It is on the World Health Organization List of Essential Medicines. In 2018, it was the 204th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than 2 million prescriptions. The method employs the competitive enzyme immunoassay technique. In the first step, samples and standards are pipetted into microwells. If Carbamazepine is present in the samples or standards, it will form complex with specific antibodies which is pre-coated onto microwells. In the second step, Carbamazepine:HRP conjugate is pipetted and incubated. Free HRP conjugate will be removed by a washing step. In the third step, TMB substrate is added to microwells and color develops inversely proportionally to the amount of Carbamazepine present in the samples or standards. Color development is then stopped by addition of stop solution. Absorbance is measured at 450 nm.
