Description
Human plasma kallikrein, a serine protease, is first synthesized as an inactive plasma prekallikrein in liver and circulates in the plasma. Once activated by activated coagulation factor XII (FXIIa), plasma kallikrein releases bradykinin (an inflammatory mediator) from high molecular weight kininogen (HMWK).
